O Youth Group da Igreja Presbiteriana Cristo Rei em East Boston existe desde a plantação da igreja.
Nessa época, o grupo tomou a forma tradicional Brasileira, como a UPA. Esse grupo era liderado por
voluntários. A igreja cresceu, e a primeira geração começou a sair de Boston para começar faculdade.
A necessidade para um ministério mais consistente começou a ficar claro. Hoje, o ministério tem três
partes: High School Ministry (Grades 9-12), Junior High Ministry (Grades 6-8), e City on a Hill.
Desde Outubro de 2003, o Junior High Ministry tem sido um ministério ativo na igreja. O Youth Ministry
inteiro, e o Junior High Ministry em particular, nós usamos o método do "Ministério Incarnational" Usando
o modelo de Jesus, que se fez igual a nos humanos e andou conosco, o Junior High Ministry tem sido
caracterizado pela a nossa vontade de penetrar na forma de pensar do Junior e andar com eles.
O ministério tem sido formado pelo o crescimento de relacionamentos e ensinamento. Nós fazemos isso
da forma, mas natural possível: conversando, brincando, usando a internet, com Myspace e Orkut, e
celebrando eventos especiais juntos, como aniversários, concertos, eventos de esportes, e formaturas.
Em classes de Escola Dominical e lições no Domingo à noite temos comunicado o Evangelho e
ensinado as coisas básicas da Fé Cristã.
No final de Agosto 2006, começamos o nosso High School Ministry. Usando o formato de um grupo
pequeno, começamos a reunir na minha casa as sextas a noite. O grupo tem crescido, e agora inclui
não somente adolescentes da nossa igreja, mas um número de amigos do grupo que visitaram e
decidiram ficar. Para facilitar essas reuniões, tenho dado caronas regularmente para aqueles que os
pais não podem trazer, ou não querem trazer. Nosso método e passar um tempo discutindo um livro, e
ai passar um tempo confraternizando. Temos discutido o tópico de relacionamentos e sexualidade com
o nosso estudo dos livros Every Young Man/Woman's Battle por Arterburn, Stoeker and Etheridge.
Estudamos sobre tentação, discutindo o livro The Screwtape Letters por C.S. Lewis. Agora nos estamos
estudando sobre religioes do mundo, e o que e unico do Cristianismo. Tivemos algumas noites de filme,
aonde discutimos filmes modernos (Diary of a Mad Black Woman e Little Miss Sunshine) no luz de nossa
fé Cristã. As vezes as discussões são barulhentas, outras, caladas e pensativas, mas em todo caso, os
adolescentes sempre saem lutando com uma Verdade. Nessa fase de adolescência, a luta e o que cria
crescimento espiritual.
Em outubro de 2006, nós começamos um ministério novo e excitante. Depois de comunicar com Everett
Public Access Television, nós fomos aprovados para criar um show humorístico que seria colocado no
ar nesse canal. Depois de apresentar a idéia para os adolescentes, eles ficaram bem entusiasmados.
Esse ministério em particular e muito importante pra nos, porque nos acredito em o modelo de Cristo
transformando cultura, ao invés de Cristo contra cultura, ou Cristo com cultura. A mídia pode ser um
poderoso aliado do evangelho, e se conhecermos bem a nossa audiência, poderemos criar uma coisa
que chama a sua atenção. Felizmente, nos temos o melhor recurso – um grupo de crianças entre as
idades de 9 a 18 anos, cheios de criatividade e um ótimo senso de humor.
Usando coisas que já tínhamos, como, uma câmera, criatividade e conhecimento de edição, começamos
e estamos trabalhando na edição de City on a Hill. Quando precisávamos de um microfone para melhor
qualidade de filme, nós vendemos uns passes que tínhamos ganhado no Soulfest de 2006, vendemos
balas e recebemos doações de membros generosos. Assim, fomos capacitados a comprar um microfone
de qualidade professional. Estamos agora acabando de filmar os primeiros 5 episódios e vamos logo
começar os próximos 5. Se Deus quiser, vamos conseguir filmar, editar e finalizar todos esses
episódios! Estamos trabalhando fervorosamente para arrecadar fundos para comprar um computador
que vai ter a habilidade de produzir esses episódios.

Christ the King Presbyterian Church/Youth Group
The youth group of Christ the King Church began with the planting of the church. It took on the
traditional Brazilian form, UPA, and was run with the help of volunteers. As the church developed and the
first generation of teenagers moved on to college, the need for more consistent ministry became clear.
Since October of 2003, the Junior High Ministry (Grades 6-8) has been an active and vibrant ministry in
the church. As with the ministry as a whole, this involves "Incarnational Ministry". Taking the model of
Jesus who stepped into a human body and walked among us, the Junior High Ministry has been about
stepping into the Junior High mindset and walking with them.
Put into practice, this ministry has been shaped by relationship-building and teaching. Relationships are
built in the most natural way possible: through talking, joking, using online tools such as Myspace and
Orkut, and celebrating special milestones together, such as birthdays, recitals, sporting events and
graduations. Sunday School classes, and Sunday Night Lessons enable us to communicate the Gospel
and teach the basics of the Christian faith.
At the end of August, 2006, we began our High School Ministry (Grades 9-12). Utilizing the format of a
small group, we began meeting at my home every Friday Night (It has moved to Monday Night since).
The group has grown, and now includes not only youth from our own church, but also some who were
invited to visit by the members of the group and felt welcome enough to return again and again. In order
to facilitate these meetings, rides have been given regularly to some young people whose parents are
unable or unwilling to drive them.
Our method is to spent some time discussing a book or subject, and then move on to some time
socializing. We have discussed the topic of relationships and sexuality in our study of the books Every
Young Man/Woman's Battle by Arterburn, Stoeker and Etheridge. We discussed the book The
Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Currently, we are doing an in-depth study of world religions and what
sets Christianity apart. We have also had a couple of movie nights, where we discussed modern films
(Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Little Miss Sunshine) in light of our Christian faith. Discussions range
from loud and heated, to quiet and thoughtful, but no matter what there is always a Truth that the
students walk away struggling with, and it is the struggle that allows adolescents to mature in this phase
of their Spirituality.
In October of 2006 we embarked on a new and exciting ministry. After communicating with Everett Public
Access Television, we got green light to create a sketch show that would be aired on the channel. After
presenting the idea to the students, they became very enthusiastic. This ministry in particular is very
important to me, because I believe in the model of Christ transforming culture, rather than Christ against
culture or Christ and culture. The media can be a powerful ally to the Gospel, if we can know our target
audience well enough to create something appealing to them. Luckily we have the ultimate resource – a
group of kids between the ages of 9 and 19 with a lot of creativity and a wonderful sense of humor.
Utilizing things we already had, such as a camera, creativity, and some film editing skills, we began and
hope to launch the series as soon as possible. When we needed a microphone to create better
segments, we sold some ski lift passes we had won in the summer at Soulfest, sold candy, and received
donations from generous members and were able to purchase a professional quality shotgun
microphone. We are now nearly working fervently to raise enough money to purchase a computer that
will have the extended capabilities needed to produce these episodes.
Come join us on Sundays, or sometime during the week. We love meeting new people and are very open
to new ideas and opinions!

believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the
public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was
given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your
progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will
save both yourself and your hearers." (1 Timothy 4:12-16)
